Schools in USA offereing MS CS

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for decent schools in US that offer MS Computer Science (with or without funding). Could you please list them down ?

Also how true is the idea of just first getting admitted into a school, go there and pay for the first semester and then later look for funding once you are there ?

Also what kind of profile would be good to get into these schools ? I have an undergrad GPA of 3.2, a research internship at University of Waterloo, probably going to pull 1300+ on the GRE, 4.0 on the writing & currently I'm working as a Research Assistant in my native university (LUMS) in Pakistan. I'm expecting 2 decent LOR as well.

Thanks a lot

That's the $64,000 question. Of course, it varies by school, and I would always plan on being self-sufficient for an MS. For more details about funding at each school, search the old posts in this forum and at Edulix in addition to contacting the departments for such statistics. Generally, public universities that don't have a lot of international CS students are a good bet, e.g. Purdue.

For higher than average chances at funding prior to the first semester, there is UIUC (very ambitious) and the University of Utah (which awards some TA positions).

For a 40% tuition waiver, there is UF's achievement award.

I don't know about the Canadian schools you mentioned. As discussed in old posts, some Canadian schools do offer stipends to MS students, but such schools seem to have more competition.

Of course, the chances of getting an H1B visa for working in the US are increased by going to a US instituion for an MS or PhD. I am not familiar with the job scene or visa issues for working in Canada.
