SUNY SB Vs UFL

hello everyone...I have admits from Suny Stony Brook and University of Florida for MS(CS)....and m very confused regarding the decision.....till now I have the following points....

University Of Florida

Advantages :

1.) Good courses in DB( my interests)

2) Only 9 units( 3 subjects) per sem...less course load...

3) Placements are good @ UFl

Disadvantages:
1.) Number of ppl moving to UFL is very large...so higher competition...almost impossible to get campus jobs!!

SUNY SB:

Advantages:

1) Better job scene ....new york....
2) Reputed department

Disdvantages:

1) 12 credit system...courseload!!
2) Less activity in databases..also the courses in DB are not that exciting..ssb is mainely known for its systems courses!!!

Should I take up UFL only for courses...??..heard that if u are interested in phD then only the research matters....

Please help me in deciding my final destination!!

Wow, a lot of people seem to have this same dilemma. What are your research interests? Databases?

Since you didn't mention getting the $12k (40%) achievement award, that would certainly make UF less tempting. But if your research interest is databases, then UF would be my choice.

Keep in mind that most of the students at UF are not actively seeking employment. For example, I once turned down a campus job at UF It was offered by the physics department to do some manual labor.

Check it out:

https://jobs.ufl.edu

Every time I check, the UF library is always looking for someone to shelve books, etc.

On the positive side, if most of the courses are graded on a curve, there is less to worry about since everyone will be in the same boat.

Some advice you may have seen:

From an MS Student's view, i guess we have to look more into the course work / subjects that are being offered under the respective specialization rather than research groups.

Best universities for databases? - Edulix
Concerning SUNY SB having a better location, location obviously shouldn't be the biggest factor. Otherwise, everyone would just go to San Jose State University. And the money you may be saving by going to UF could help pay for moving expenses if need be. One perspective is that location should be the least important factor:
