    1. Claim: Colleges and universities should specify all required courses and eliminate elective courses in order to provide clear guidance for students.
    2. Reason: College students—like people in general—prefer to follow directions rather than make their own decisions.

College and universities are the place where the students decides about his career, knows about what he or she is capable of and then move forwards from there. I completely disagree with the above claim that the elective subjects from college and universities should be eliminated.
Elective subjects assists in strengthening career of students by learning things apart from their specialized academic plan, which gives an oppurtunity to the student to think differently from his selected major field. For example if there is no elective subjects and the students major is Mathematics then he will be only exceled in his major field but he lacks the knowldge of any other field which is not related with Mathematics. He may face many problems while going for the interview because he is only expert in his particular field . But intervies taker observes students overall quality including both the specillization an general knowledge.
Also if the eletive subjects are provided then the students will have more options choosing their career. Student may change his career or he can choose that particular elective subject as his major for higher studies. Most of the students got job on the basis of his elective subject not for major which shows that elective subject helps students in not gaining knowledge apart from specialized subject but it also hepls in providing more career oppurtunities.
Most of the students choose their major subjects because of demand not on personal interests. The student who has opted the majro because of demand not on his interest than he may face lot of problems regarding his career if he has not taken any elective subjects. Because at that particular time because of his apathectic nature on that subject he is not able to achive his goals and he do not have any other career option. Due to this his whole career is devastated .
So elimanating elective sujects from universities and colleges will not ameliorate student's knowledge and career options but it will only hamper the students career whose effect is observed in coming time. It is universal truth that acuiring knowledge from various disciplines shaprpens mind of students and helps them grasping the things fastly and it also helps them to achieve their goals very easily.
Therefor having elective subjects in good thing, and college and universities will definetly not eliminate it.

Is this a GRE essay? GMAT? TOEFL?

I'm going to move this to the English forum for now.
