Hello,

Any feedback would be great! Thank you :)

As people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

Technology can inadvertently cause us to become reliant on the convienences that they offer. However, without technology many of the advances that we have today may not have existed and having technology as part of our everydays lives has given humans to thrive more efficiently.

The advent of the internet has changed the world completely. Wikipedia.org alone has given many the ability to educate themselves that would otherwise require a drive to the local library. Some may believe that technology has caused the population to decrease its mental acuity, but youtube self help videos can allow the individual to solve problems and find help in areas of weakness. In the example mentioned with the library versus use of wikipedia.org or even britannica.com/org, the internet accessibility alone triumphs over typical library hours of 9-8pm. Research can be done on the internet without the use of accessing paper within restrictive time frames of building hours. Another added bonus of the internet is saving trees without the need for paper material production.

In addition, technological advances that allow us to communicate with others from a far away distance can help with collaboration and foster ingenuity otherwise limited by geography. For instance, Skype or video chatting can help doctors discuss medical conditions with one another that require expertise not readily availble. Doctors who are trying to treat a medical anomoly needing urgent attention, perhaps not yet published online, can lead to a unfortunate loss of life a patient. Given the technology advances that allow us to reach out to others via cell phone, email or, as mentioned earlier, skype/ video chatting, the exchange of information can happen to hopefully extend the patient's life, or even better, cure the patient.

Calculators and GPS definitely create great shortcuts for us and can allow us to become dependent on these convienences. Should the battery or electrical component fail, not being able to find our way home could pose a big problem. Being able to do basic math and knowing our general surroundings are fundamentals that should be taught and learned in our formal educational process. However, these convienences tend to offer more bad than good. A calculator can quicken the length of time of doing multiplication of large numbers and a GPS can help navigate the entire US instead of dangerously opening an atlas while driving.

All in all, as with most technology, it can pose to both beneficial or disadvantageous, but for the most part, technology has allowed us to explore and advance ourselves in more ways than without.
