I've shortlisted the following uni's: Duke, NYU, USC, Penn State, Brown, Arizona and Vanderbilt.

Ideally, I'd like to do Pol Sci, and at Duke it seems I'd be allowed to substitute two languages rather than having to take math. Also I am a libertarian and Mike Munger (the head of the Pol Sci department at Duke) is a fellow traveller so it'd be great to work with him.

Anyway, I think I'll have a strong app otherwise (3.85 cum, 3.92 major from top university, strong letters, two senior theses, RA experience, award at graduation), but I'm worried that this score will be a turn off for the admissions committees.

Thoughts?

Hi All-

I am applying to several PhD programs in poli sci, and want to contact various professors with whom I would like to work or at least make them aware that I am interested in their work. Does anyone have any tips on how to contact such profs without sounding as if I am job-hunting?

Thanks!

My dream is to work with Peter Katzenstein at Cornell. Here are my stats:
1. 750 verbal, 670 quant. Don't know writing yet but probably pretty solid.
2. UG GPA: 3.8, honors, honors thesis
3. Good extra curriculars, internships
4. Good LORs
5. Bad: not much substantive job experience transfer...

4. Good <a href='#' class='gal' onmouseover='GAL_popup(this,"1", 300, "", "LoR means letter of recommendation (e.g., from a supervisor, or a former professor of yours) which some programs may require you to supply as part of your application to their program. 5. Bad: not much substantive job experience transfer from a junior college, top 100 school (as ranked by Forbes)
So, dreams come true or not?
