Instead, they send official notification to applicants (accepted or rejected) via emails only.

I think it's kind of cheap part of the schools to send out notification to accepted applicants via email only because the application fee is expensive (about $70), and they refuse to send first class mail for just a dollar of postage fee?

I mean, I can understand if they just want to send out email to rejected applicants, but if they really want to show that they really want to take as many as accepted students as possible, shouldn't they send out offical letter in addition to email notification?

This part of the board rarely gets many replies, but I thought I'd post a question anyway. I am currently thinking that I will stay away from universities for a while after my undergraduate degree is over, and use that time to figure out more clearly what subject area I might want to study further.

I see no point in thinking about applications until I know what I'll be studying and why. I won't be able to figure out what I am getting into until I've studied research in that subject area. I'd like to stop thinking about application and admission issues, and instead think more about the subject matter.

One might assume, because I've posted in the 'Ph.D. in economics' forum, that I am planning to do a graduate degree in economics, but that is not true. Economics is just one of the subjects I'd consider learning more about; I'd also consider doing something like a master's in math. If this website also had a subforum for graduate degrees in math, operations research et cetera, I might have posted questions in those too.

If I did a graduate degree in math, it would not be preparation for a degree in economics; I'd be doing it without the intention of doing a degree in economics afterward, and with the expectation of afterward doing things that are typical for those who've just done a masters in math.

My goal in the next year is to cover the background that would leave me able to read, and work my way through, graduate-level materials in both mathematics and economic theory. I am taking courses, like undergraduate algebra, econometrics and microeconomics, that I believe will be helpful.

I am trying to figure out which graduate degree subjects are realistic for a student who has taken enough math to meet the minimum requirements for math graduate programs, but who does not have undergraduate coursework in any of the natural sciences.

So far, I think the main options would be:

-math
-applied math
-economics, especially micro theory, macro theory, metric theory
-operations research
-statistics

Are there any other subjects that would be worth consideration, but that I haven't thought of? Is there any type of engineering that is accessible to students without any undergraduate coursework in the natural sciences?

I ended up with 550 for Q and 450 for V. I do, however, feel very confident about my AW. I was hoping this test would help supplement my mediocre GPA (3.2) when applying for graduate school. Not all the programs require GRE scores. Would anyone actually send these scores in? I feel like it merely confirms my lackluster GPA.

In addition, I did list one school that doesn't need the GRE scores after completing the test. Should I rescind this score? Is it possible to rescind scores?

Thanks in advance.

Some big time schools like Purdue and UCLA have programs called "Master of Science, Engineering" degree programs. Programs like these are made for working professionals with the flexibility to design their own plan of study geared for their engineering career (pending advisor's approval), and mostly done by distance learning to accomodate working professionals, but you take the same class and earn the same Master degree as on campus student.

I believe the degree is "Master of Science", under the "Engineering" major.

I am just wondering what you guys think about degree like this? What would the employers view degree like this comparing to degrees like "Master of Science, Electrical Engineering" or "Master of Science, Computer Science"???
I think there has not been discussion about programs like this since this is actually new trend.
