    When is TestMagic's birthday ?

    Hi Erin ,

I (and perhaps many others) don't know when the birthday of our site is. I guess somewhen mid-2001 or so, is that right ?

I was wondering about this when thinking that why we don't do something special to celebrate the day a really true and marvelous 'friend' of ours 'uttered a cry' when brought into the world ? (And in fact its 'cry' has really helped bring happy smiles to many others )

On that day maybe we can hold a 'virtual party', where everybody can chat and gossip (or of course, do other things than those ). That will be really interesting. I think it's great to have a whole day as 'TestMagic Day'. Have you thought of this before, Erin ?

And all of you guys please state what you think...

    Hey Phuong,

U're right! We could have a big celebration! Maybe we can prepare a list of all the past & present members and their experiences and views about TM Of course, there are several other things that can be decided on! Sounds very exciting!!

    Hi all ,

I myself think we should found an award named 'Member Of The Year', which honors the most active and helpful member of a year according to all other members' voting (of course the nominees shouldn't include our Erin cuz we all know he's always the very one-don't you be disapointed Erin ).

Four or five candidates may be chosen by Erin, then we can vote for the one we feel most deserves. The result must be kept as a secret till the last minute of the day before our TM birthday. The winner may have the unique honorable name as 'Member Of The Year' or sth like that instead of 'TM Guru' or 'TM Groupie'. Certainly we can have 'Member Of The Month', too .

    Hope that sounds interesting .

Actually, those are really great ideas, and I've thought about doing some of those myself. One of the things I'd like to do in the near future is has some sort of "member award," or something like that. The only thing I don't like about a "member of the month" award, or anything similar, is that I can only choose one person, and it could very well be the case that there are two or three people I'd like to choose. Furthermore, if I choose one person over another, well, of course, somebody's feelings might get hurt. I've seen on some sites a feature that ranks members according to the number of posts, and I think that the best thing for TM would be something like tying the rating and ranking of a member's posts to that member's ranking. In other words, if you make a lot of good posts, other members will vote, and your ranking will go up. I guess this would be kind of similar to what Amazon.com does already with their members and their members' posts.

About our group's b-day. To be honest, I don't really know... Let me do a search right now to find the first post. I guess that would be the "birthday," wouldn't it?

hmmm.... couldn't find the very first post, I must have deleted it. But I found the second post, and it was answered by the first member.

So I guess that's our birthday!

    Here it is:

    http://www.TestMagic.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2

As far as all of TestMagic, www.TestMagic.com, it launched in 1998.

I think your suggestion is a great one, and I'll put some thought into how we can celebrate. In the meantime, please post your suggestions here.

There is one thing that I plan to announce in the coming weeks. From time to time, various publishers or companies contact me about their products. Usually I tell these companies that I don't have enough time to review their products, but I tell them that if they give me the product, I will allow one of my forum members to review the product.

So, one company has decided to allow me to give one member here a one-month pass to its web site to review its software. After that, the member has to post her or his experiences here in the discussion groups for others to see. Anyway, I'm going to announce this soon, so more details will follow.

I've been really busy lately, partly because I had to beef up the security here on TM because we had a "little hacker" visit us and cause us some problems. Anyway, I think things are okay right now, but I had to make a lot of changes to protect our posts. All your data is safe though--Snitz uses five hash encryption (I think that's correct) for all passwords, so nobody, not even me, can see the passwords!!

Okay, enough for now. Gotta get back to work!!

Oh I'm so sorry Erin! Really sorry, cuz that 'little hacker' is a friend of mine . Once he and another saw me accessing to the site, and they (must say that both are really good at programming-but are well-experienced hackers ) challenge each other to hack our site. I myself tried to stop them and said this is my favourite site, but they promised to just do sth with the security system (I don't remember exactly cuz I'm not good at Informatics), which would affect not much to our posts. But thank God everything is fine now.

I swear this will never happen again, Erin

I think the birthday should be that of the whole Testmagic site, not the forum's (Don't you remember the time when our site appear on the net?). But if we choose 10/25 as the birthday, may we still have enough time to prepare everything? Or do you want to wait for next year's ?

Yes, I think that's pretty good, I totally agree with the idea. But just one more thing, will the result be kept secretly or will it appear right after one's vote? I guess the latter. However, I myself still prefer the first choice cuz, you know, the feeling of waiting for the secret to be opened is really exciting.

personal statement: And about the hacker, he and I have just had a talk and he seems very sorry. But he said 'hacking a site is another way to help make it more well-protected'! What a person !

Erin, how much time will it take you to make such a system?
Hope that will come soon !

Hey Erin, is this a grammar mistake or not? This is the first time I've seen that structure. Is it 'have' or really 'has' ?
