Wow, to be quoted by Erin is my honor.

Hee hee :o ...this was the first thing I checked for too when I read your post, ShalomFang. I appreciate you commenting on other people's essays too. We might have different philosophies on editing essays though. Sometimes I believe that if the essay writer did not put some hard work and thinking into the first draft, no matter how many times it's edited, it still may not be good. It might sound polished but it may not be what the essay writer really wanted to express. I've read many essays and found that some people just need some help on grammar and maybe sentence structure, and some people need you to sit with them and figure out what exactly they are trying to say because what they wrote was not really what they wanted to say. Anyway, I still stand that whoever wants my help also needs to tell me exactly what the direction/format is and what their expectations are, but I'm willing to help. Maybe it's also a pride thing, because I always want the papers I've proofread to get them the A's or get them into a school.

Nice discussion here.

Yes, nobody orders anyone around here. But I personally feel that if you are doing something for a person, it should come genuinely from within your heart and not just to increase your post count or to show off.

Check out this, this and this. Those are the only general essay comments I ever did in the open forum. Believe me, they were not just 1 hour jobs *but* I loved every minute of them.

I knew that I wouldn't be able to do justice to any of the essays when I was not very inclined to comment on them. So I simply avoided looking at the essays. Maybe that makes me cold-hearted and selfish but I didn't think I would have been happy with not giving my best with my comments. From the posts on this thread, I see that a lot of people feel that way and I think it is a good thing. There is nothing more dissatisfying than giving an essay a one-line grade and vanishing. I have done that too and I found that I felt rather bad about it later, so I gave up.

WOW! I just saw the comments you've made on previous essays and those comments and insights are incredible!!! I should had sent my SOP to you last year, then it might not have taken me 5 months!!! But I did ask the "Greek God" for ideas and that's how I became his "follower"...hee hee.

Hmmm...maybe I should read some essays just to "give back".

p.s. your third "this" with the link to http://urch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107706 does not work for some reason.

Yep. That guy is out of this planet, quite literally. I sometimes wonder why he is even bothering to graduate. He should be shooting directly for a Nobel.

I think you already "give-back" more than any of us ever do. One has only to look around to see what I am talking about.

Actually, I've been meaning to say that first, your English is very good, but more important, I'm really glad that you've come here and posted. I always wish there were active Chinese members here. I always hear my Chinese students say that they are embarrassed to speak/write English because they believe their English isn't good enough, but (and research backs this up) their perception isn't close to the truth; in other words, their English is a lot better than they think it is.

Of course, one way; no, one of the best ways, to improve one's language abilities is to practice. And practice a lot. So I honestly appreciate your efforts.

Re: I found a big problem !!!!

I don't think that there's anything wrong with the pattern you're noticing. I browse maybe a dozen forums every day, but I can't find the time to make a post on all of them! However, I don't think it is right for a person to leave their 13 page term paper with a note : "Email me at _____ with you're correxxns thnx!!!!"

There is nothing wrong with just enjoying the wealth of information here, but don't expect people to personally serve you if you don't give back to the community.
