Can I change my username?

Unfortunately, the forum software is set up so that you cannot change your username (a.k.a., your login, your login name, the name or alias that the forum displays next to your posts, or the name you use to log in). It is possible for the forum admin to change it for you, but please understand that we would be reluctant to do so for several reasons. First of all, if you've made a lot of posts in the forums, others will be confused if you suddenly change your username. Second, if you haven't made any posts at all, but still want to change your username, it would be easier to simply re-register (although you will need to use a different email address).

That said, we are not unsympathetic to our users who want to change their usernames. In fact, we would recommend that you do so if you've used your real name or your e-mail address as your username.

If we decide we can change your username for you, we will need some evidence that you are the one who registered for the forum account. The only way for us to know this is for you to send us your username and password. We will test it (we cannot look up passwords, as they are encrypted), and if it works, we can proceed. Of course, once your username has been changed, we recommend that you change your password for security reasons.
