Spreading reputation...
I've been trying to give some rep to someone who sent me a fabulous file. This person really deserves it because the file is close to a life saver! However, I haven't been able to add to his/her rep because it seems I have given this person some rep before. Anyhow, a pop-up message tells me I need to spread rep to others before I can give this person rep points... As I don't tend to throw my rep around, it could take ages before I can finally thank this person with some rep for the fabulous file...
Is there anything I can do? If not, how much rep will I have to "spread" before I can give this person rep again? |

I don't think there's any way around it. If I recall, it's set at five, but it could be ten, I'm not sure right now. The idea of this feature is that more people will also benefit from rep, not just one or two. And it's good for more people to receive rep simply because it feels nice to be repped, which in turn helps the community.
You might want to try giving out rep to a few more people; it feels nice. Or a personal thank you is nice, too. |

I feel the same as cridamour.
Obviously there is a need to avoid misuse by buddy-voting, but it would be better if the limit was several votes for one person before having spread it around a bit (hmmm, that sounds rude to UK ears). Quote:
Mind you my personal view is that votes are like smilies, avatars and animation - only suitable for the cerebrally challenged. Michael PS Please can we have a grumpy smilie?

I'm trying to direct all the reputation questions to one thread, in which we attempt to explain reputation.
Edit: Hehe, yeah, this was a funny thread. ![]() |
