Erin,

As a geographer I applaud the addition of Google Maps and the opportunities they provide for time-wasting.

If you click on a flag you get to see the User Name, which is a clickable link. However the link just takes you to http://www.urch.com/

Would it be possible for the link to go to the Member's Profile?

Tips for marking your location on Google maps :

-Google the latitude,longitude of your city if not found here

-Zoom to your country ( in my case India )
Since the google-maps don’t allow us to move beyond a particular zoom level,it is better you have latitude,longitue of your city with you.

-Now try to set one parameter at a time,either longitude or latitude

-Move map horizontally to adjust Longitude.(say in my case Mumbai-74.35W )

-Move map vertically to adjust Latitude (in my case Mumbai-18 56 N )

-Once done Enter the name of city along with your message .(because we do not have latitude-longitude to city integration avalilable at present in our map)

-click ok and you are done. -If you mark your location wrong ,Click “Your Entry” button again,there is an option available to change your previous information.

-Only one entry per user is allowed at present on maps,if you want to mark new entry you will have to delete your previous information.

MY Sugestions :

These features will need quite some geocoding to be done on the map, to make it more user friendly.

-The maps should be more visible. It may be linked as a sub-forum to Introductions forum.

-Integration of username with profile (as pointed out by Michael)

-Dropdown box for marking our city,which automatically marks our location.

-Auto-integraton of of city/country/state on marking from dropdown box.

-Longitude,latitude entry box to enter latitude longitude ,which marks your location on the map.(this would be used in case the city is not in the drop down box)

-Search feature to search on basis of location/username. (I am going overboard here

)

Google Maps is a very powerful tool,a lot number of sites are coming with with google maps integration.

In our case It may be used to contact and locate our seniors who are studying /working /residing in US and other countries.
Now if any of us gets admission in the same university /city ,it will be quite easy to get help from a TM buddy.

Testmagic at present has 33,000 members,considering only 10,000 are there in US at present…and 5000 map themselves,that will be quite a large number .
Admins know how to get them back to map .and maybe we can retain a few of them.

The essence of maps lies in its right use,otherwise it will be no more than a mere digression..under the Funstuff navbar

Has anyone noticed that on the small scale map Erin is hiding behind yoda_ngen, who is in the middle of San Francisco Bay?

Yes, it is a lot of fun, isn't it? I also would like the link to go to the member's profile, but it's not currently coded that way, and unfortunately, I don't have the coding skills to make it do that.

I will, however, keep an eye on the modification for updates.

Yeah, I've noticed another member placed in the middle of the sea. Not a comfortable place to be, I'd think, unless of course it was on the QEII.
