hi

Zavera, its not my personal club. Its just an idea. a concept. I'm not the authority and i'm not making the rules. I'm asking you members to evaluate the ideas and come up with suggestions. We (not I) are forming the club.
Constructive criticism appreciated. It'd help if you suggest solutions to the problem too.
thank you for your participation and stay tuned!

sry abt the double post (or single?) , cant see my previous post. So anyways :

I will have to agree with Zavera. Though what neo says about Harvard vs. Grand Valley is true, just networking among the top 10 is pretty absurd. In reality, authors who collaborate on papers/books do not go about looking for co-authors from the univ that are ranked same. I have seen profs from Caltech coauthor with CalState (which atleast I've never heard of, and I presume is not equivalent to Caltech) or Harvard prof coauthor with Wisconsin professor.
Bottomline: If the individual(s) have the same interest and excellent rapport, nothing should stop them from working together!

Larami 's dreams are becoming reality.
Maybe after people get admitted to the club there should be some sort of hazing and then an initiation where everyone gets loaded. And then after that, the admitted member can where the colors and symbols of the club.

A secret handshake would be a nice feature as well.

Things should be like if u introduced me to an executive, he should have that thought in mind that hes talking to someone worthy (dont mean ppl from small schools are unworthy, but, just being practical here. Thats how the world thinks).
Wait a minute. So the Harvard guy and the Grand Valley State guy won't talk to each other because they have nothing in common. Why does there need to be a rule keeping them apart then? If they don't want to talk they won't. If they do want to talk the rule keeping them apart is an unnecessary burden.

If I am going to even consider being part of this there better not be any rules keeping me away from people I could benefit from interacting with.

I wonder how many of the people clamoring for the creation of this network will be excluded from it?

A networking group sounds good, and count me in, and I agree with everyone criticizing the currently proposed selection method. I understand being selective, but you'd have a difficult enough time figuring out who the top 10 schools are. Just among Chris Silvey's ranking page you have NYU, Columbia, UCSD, and BU are considered top 10 depending on what ranking you look at.

well.

hmm, true.
Any more ideas/comments/solutions?

***************************************
and yea, i take that top 10 thing back.
***************************************

There maybe many good ideas, but ideas are just in the mind. Worthless if not realized.

idea*noaction = 0

idea*action = 1

ok, so the probability that this idea is realized lies between 0 and 1. Calculate the probability.

*ahem* i need rest.

p.s: this has no connection with anything written above.
If ideas are considered actions in some form and nothing is done towards realizing it, wonder what their reactions are based on the theory Every action has an equal and Opposite reaction.
nvm..

Actually, this is all something I've been thinking about for several years. In fact, I've contemplated separating testmagic and urch, with urch being solely for Internet users and testmagic for local business purposes.

The main reason I've thought of this before is simple--I get to know and see so many great people here, and it seems a shame not to keep in touch somehow. Furthermore, a LOT of people here are true leaders. It just makes sense to try to figure out a way for us all to keep in touch in some way or another. And no, I have always been anti-elitist, so I wouldn't want to exclude anybody because of their alma mater, test scores, etc.; a contact from City College of San Francisco could be just as good as one from Stanford.

I haven't read through this whole thread, but I just wanted to give my thoughts before I do.

Thanks for the suggestion.
