wow!! so so funny that I almost can't breathe from laughing about it..Did you thoroughly check the English composition of other posterS??? Or the use of small letters or capital letters??? NO offense but my English is far off better compared to the others!!!

A couple of points to make:
  • First, we're trying to reduce (or who knows, eliminate?) textese in these forums. I apologize that you feel singled out, but trust me, you're not the only one who's received this notice. (The notices aren't public.)
  • If you see a post that has a lot of textese in it, feel free to notify us with the report post button:
I'm more than happy to listen to your feedback about whether you think this is fair, etc., so feel free to post your thoughts.

Here's something else to keep in mind. I wasn't the moderator who gave you an infraction, but when I do give infractions for textese, I try to save them for posts that seem to deliberately or flagrantly ignore proper English. I'm more likely to give an infraction when I see textese in a post by someone who clearly has good command of the English language, than when I see accidental usage mistakes by someone who is trying to learn the language. If you eliminate textese from your posts, then your good English can be an example that helps others learn

manina,

You can rest assured that moderators look at many posts and take any appropriate action needed. You can also be certain that moderators will not penalise a member with limited knowledge of English who makes a genuine mistake in using the language; TestMagic Forums are not exams, they exist to help people improve their English.

That aim of the forums is why Textese is disliked - it can confuse people with limited command of English and hinder their attempts to improve. Deliberately using expressions like plz, u, r, coz, wat, 4 and so on does not help people who have come here to learn to improve their English, indeed it can actively mislead them. Failure to use capitals is not only bad English, it makes text less easy to read and understand. Apart from presenting problems to readers use of Textese may also get the writer into bad habits.

I think that the problem is partly due to the recent growth of texting on phones. People carry the conventions they use there, where they are usually communicating only with those they know, over to public boards where their post may be read by hundreds or even thousands of others throughout the world. I also notice that many, though admittedly not all, posts that use Textese appear to have been rattled off quickly with little thought given to the actual content. That may be appropriate for an internet chatroom but I believe TestMagic deserves greater care and respect.

Hi Erin!
I am new member on this forum and I am trying my level best to Obey all the forum rules. I am trying so hard to exclude textese from my messages and I hope so it is getting better. I understand why it is so important but even then i felt that the rules are very harsh for the new members especially. We all are trying here to help each other. Also I need help cause I don't understand that if I want to buy some books from some members on the forum how can I be able to contact them if I'll not give them my e-mail or is it ok to write e-mail in PM, please can you make it clear to me so that I'll be more careful in future. Sorry for any inconvinience. This forum is GREAT.
Best Regards

pinky786,

Whilst it may seem harsh with regard to new members remember that new members have only just joined TestMagic and did so via a process which made the rules very clear to them. They also had to confirm that they had read and accepted those rules. It might therefore be said that new members really have very little excuse for not remembering what they have just agreed to.

On the subject of contacting people you have two options.

If you click on a member's name in the column on the left you will get a drop down window. That includes options to send an email via TestMagic or to send a PM. You can also get to the PM option via the Quick Links link near top right of the page.

They can reply to you by similar means or responding to the message they receive from you.

I suppose it is up to you whether you divulge your email in a PM. However there is no need to as replies can be made via TestMagic systems. Also it is probably not a good idea to give your email out unless you really have to.
