Failed to register with Selective Service
Background: I'm a US citizen and resident (of 2 years) who recently turned 26. I learned, literally today, that I was required to register for the draft on my 18th birthday. It's too late now, so I'm wondering how it will affect my funding options for a business PhD.
If it comes down to it, I'll appeal rejections of funding based on not knowing and not willingly refusing to register. But I'm not sure my case is a strong one (all I have going for me was that I did live overseas with no American family from when I was 5-23). So I'm wondering if I'll be ineligible for the stipends and tuition waivers that usually come with admittance to a PhD program. I'm sure each school is somewhat different, but are there any general rules about these funds? Would they be available for someone like me? In the meantime, I’ll be calling financial aid offices. Thanks! |
