Hi Smeeskar.
I graduated from pharmacy school in Russia and worked as pharm tech here in US without taking tech exam prior to getting a job. My degree listed in the resume was enough to get the job in both hospital and retail pharmacies. All they ask you to do 3 months later is to pass simple license exam to become certified technician. Hope this will save you some time. Good luck! |

Hi smeeskar.
I worked in 2 hospitals and in CVS and none of them asked me for certificate. More than that, there were people working with me without any pharmacy education. They were trained and then just passed the test. It was a very simple test of 20 questions provided by employer. I am sure you being a pharmacist have a good shot at finding a job as a tech. Don't get disapointed if you are not getting quick response...economy isn't so good right now. I have a hard time as well. Hope I could help and good luck |

Smeeskar,
For retail it is always better to stop by and talk to a pharmacy manager. In hospitals HR is the place to go. Pay is better in the hospital..between $15 and 18. Retail is usually lower, depending on experience - $11- 15. |

Hi huliganka,
Thankyou for your response.Today i have browsed CVS and walgreens website,It is written that they give paid training for pharmacy technician and they will give certificate after training will that be equivalent to (CPhT certified pharmacy technician)? also i have worked as a lecturer for 5-7 yrs in pharmacy colleges. So i dont have any retail or hospital pharmacy experience and I am in J-2 visa dependent of my husband, but I have got my work permit(EAD) in USA. Am I eligible for these training programs. kindly give your suggestions and I'll will also try to meet the HR or pharmacy manager in these stores this week. |
