hi !
I'm certified Pharmacy tech and did start my career at CVS/pharmacy. I did not attend any school to take a Pharm tech test. CVS provided all materilas to study and sponsored my test. Try to get a job in big chain pharmacies like CVS, Rite Aid,,, As a foreigh graduate you will not have a problem to pass it. it is very easy.

Hello Kristik and nardelys,

I am also a certified technician, but so far I couldn't find a job. I have been applying for jobs online at Monster, career builder, etc. Even for CVS and other chain pharmacies I've tried to apply through their websites. But what do you suggest? Should I walk in, in each pharmacy and try to talk face to face or there are other ways.
I really appreciate your kind help. This is somehow crazy! I am a pharmacist, but i can't practice pharmacy until i get my license. But now that I have my certification for Pharmacy technician, among the interview or application questions, they ask me what is my highest education degree. When I reply "Doctorate" the say I'm overqualified, when I reply "High school" I lye, when I explain my situation I am told that "this is your own problem"!
The funniest part is that the system see it quite meaningful if I go and work in Mc Donnalds, but quite illogical if I insist to work on my own field....!

I would truly suggest you to walk in and talk to them. I start from the scrach as a cashier in front store. After getting some experience and communicating better I did introduce myself to a Pharmacist and she offered me part time and later full time position. Now I do work in a hospital setting ( inpatient ) and I like it very much because I do learn a lot there. Do not give up, I would prefer to talk to them even before applying.Hospitals always need help but I think you have to have some retail experience to get a job there. It does not hurt to try and make follow up calls anfter interviews.

Good luck

Thank you Kristi, that really helped. i appreciate it. By the way where are you? I am in California and though the statistics show a higher salary in this state, it's been rather hard to find one.

Thanks again.

i really have no experience, my spoken English is not that good too, i'm thinking about volunteering for a couple of months before i start applying for jobs, so i can be more convincing, what do u think is the better place to volunteer?? is it a retail pharmacy, or a private one?? or the hospital is better??
