In the above problem, the pharmacist is mixing the following:
100 ml of 49% v/v and 140 ml of 21 %v/v Which means he is mixing: 49 ml of alcohol (present in 100 ml of 49% v/v) and 29.4 ml of alcohol (present in 140 ml of 21 %v/v) So the final amount of alcohol in 240 ml is (49 + 29.4) 78.4 ml Percentage would be 78.4/240 x 100 = 32.6% We do not need to be rude to each other if we have different points or are missing something. |

I got 32.666 which is 32.7%v/v.
As a rule of thumb, the final conc can only fall inbetween the two level of concentrations that make up the final conc: Dynamics. I agree with HNKS that this is a study group kind of a thing and we shouldnt call each other names. The approach helps in getting around. |

Celestine, my reference to the 95% alcohol was to correct an impression created by FORPHARM that alcohol conc cant exceed 49%, congratulations to your passing the exams, i am never sarcastic about any knowledge i have, mind you i never said FPGEE is a difficult exam, i took it this oct.1st, all i said was that one really needs to be ready for that. Lets take a cue from the doctors forum and be polite and humble in criticism, foul words should not belong to a proffessional forum as this.
