Need help solving this prob...

Can someone try to solve this please

A pharmacist mixes 100 mls of diluted alcohol (49% v/v) with sufficient aromatic elixir (21%v/v) to make 240ml of final solution. What is the percentage v/v strength of alcohol in final preparation?

Thanks in advance.

What??? I did not get that. They are asking in % strength. Your explaination seems incorrect. Also how can be 70 in 100 ml when it is already diluted.

the alcohol in the first sol. is 49lm per 100 ml
then they added140 ml to get the total wich is 240 ml right
so the conc. of alcohol in the second sol will be like this21 ml per 100 ml how much will be in 140 ml57.4 in 140 ml then the total of alcohol will be 106.4 ml per 240 then you can get the %106.4per240 ml how much per 100 the result 76%

Hey guys,
I too think it might be 32.7%, can't be 76% because the max. concentration of the most conc. alcohol is 49%, so you can't create a higher % solution just like that.

The approach to problem solving is more important than the answer itself, i have not seen anybody with any formula, though i am not studying right now cos i am expecting my result, i guess that question is based on dilution method and these kind of problems could be solved by aligation method, to do well in fpgee, you need to understand the basics of questions cos they are always twisted in the real exams, best of luck
