Argument-immigrant workers: urgent comments required!!

Any comments/suggestions would be well appreciated.

The following appeared in the editorial section of a local newspaper:

“The inflow of immigrant workers into our community has put a downward pressure on wages. In fact, the average compensation of unskilled labor in our city has declined by nearly 10% over the past 5 years. Therefore, to protect our local economy, it is essential to impose a moratorium on further immigration.”

Discuss how well reasoned you find this argument. Point out flaws in the argument's logic and analyze the argument's underlying assumptions. In addition, evaluate how supporting evidence is used and what evidence might counter the argument's conclusion. You may also discuss what additional evidence could be used to strengthen the argument or what changes would make the argument more logically sound.

Firstly, the author fails to provide an exact correlation between the increase of the number of immigrant workers and the amount of decline in the average wages over the past 5 years.
-- Fails to mention if there has been an actual increase in the migrant worker population. If some of the old workers have actually moved away from the city and the number of new workers is actually equal to the number of workers who have moved away, the population would remain exactly the same over five years.

Secondly, the author does not mention how the samples were chosen in the survey that indicated this observation.
--- It is not clear from the argument how many people were surveyed or if these were the same people who were surveyed the first time. The argument does not specifically mention if the workers surveyed were new workers.

Finally, the author gives no evidence of how representative the survey is of the entire worker population.
