"A business should not be responsible for providing customers with complete information about its products or
services; customers should have the responsibility of gathering information about the products or services they may want to buy." Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion state above, support your views with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The issue of a business' responsibilty to provide customers with complete information about its products or services is a controversial one. On the other hand, the customer can not be entirely exempt from the responsibility to gather information about the products or services they're paying for. However, in the final analysis, I believe that the responsibility lies in a business to provide the customers with complete information about its products or services since the information itself should be treated as part of the product or service they're selling. One reason why a business should be responsible for the information pertaining to products or services it's selling is related to consumer awareness. Even though average consumer can be assumed to have intelligence to acquire the information related to products or services one's interested in, there is a significant proportion of population who are not able to do the same. For example, teenagers and elders looking to purchase products or services might be at a disadvantage since studies show that teenagers are more impulsive in purchase habits whereas average consumers are more cautious before buying any products or services. Elders, on the other hand, might fall victims to potential dangers any products or services without significant information. It is well known elders are often the victim of various scams that leave them devastated which could be easily prevented with basic information educating them the nature of the products or services so they can make a informed decision. As you can see, the information provided by the company can not only help in making the decision but also help the customer to be better educated as well. Another reason for my belief is that a business might be better off providing the information. Let's assume that it falls under consumer's plate to acquire information related to the product. In order for the consumer to acquire the same level of information which used to be provided by companies, consumers will need an access to the sensitive information that company might not want to make public. Furthermore, laws requiring those company-sensitive information public might make u.s. companies unable to compete in global market, since other companies will have same information to make same or better product. Also since the company already have the information related to products or services they're providing readily at hand, it is unreasonable for consumers to waste time trying to acquire the readily available information. In the end, I believe it is better left for the company to provide information related to products it is selling. Perhaps the best reason is that the information related to the products services should be treated as part of the product or service itself. It is silly to differentiate the product from the information, since service is equally treated as product in our market. If this is the case, why should information related to appropriately using the product treated separate from physical product? If service is treated as product, customer service including informing the consumer about the products should be part of the product as well. For all these reasons, I therefore believe that it is the responsibility of the business to provide the information related to products or services it's selling. This will benefit both consumer and business in the end, enabling the customer easy access to product and the company protecting its profit-sensitive informations. -------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for reviewing! |

Yes, once I had the template familiarized and spent 5 min or so organizing my thought, it takes roughtly 25-30min to write the essay. The challenge for me is to have 5 min at the end so i have enough time to edit my essay. This has been hit or miss depending on the time i spend brainstorming in the beginning.
Thanks for your feedback! |
