My second Issue: essay AWA

“Government should establish regulations to reduce or eliminate any suspected health hazards in the environment, even when the scientific studies of these health hazards are incomplete or contradictory.”
Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion stated above. Support your position with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.

12.13-12.43

"To err is Human". History has shown us that inspite of having scientific studies to avoid health hazards, accidents have been occuring in our chemical plants and other industries. The above opinion asserts that government should establish regulations to reduce the chances of health hazards. I agree with this opinion and would present my ideas to support the assertion.

Primarily, Whenever an accident takes palce in a chemical plant many human lifes are at danger. A strong health regulation from government could reduce the chances of such incidents. We have the example of Carbaide gas leak tragedy, which occured in an Chemical Plant of Dupont,Bhopal 1982,killing many plant workers. The leakage had many far reaching consequences, causing genetic deformation of many individuals. If proper health regulations whould have been established, such an incident would have never occured.

Secondarily, Most of the plants are run by private companies who can compromise on the safety measures to avoid expenses.Government intervention, combined with firm standards on safety measures can minimize the chances of such accidents. For example, in the Bhopal Gas tragedy, after the gas leakage, the government established strong rules to avoid health hazards and as a result there is no accident since last three decades in that plant.

However, Some critics may argue that Government intervention can interfere with the working of such plants or industries, which may be true in some cases. But, nothing comes above safety of human beings and plants should abide with the regulations of the government.

In Sum, under the light of the factors disscussed above, strong regulations by government and industries adhereing these regulations can eliminate suspected health hazards and make this world a secure place for human Beings.
