6.0 and how to go about it

Received my report today with a 6.0

Here is some advise to how to go about awa.

Surf through the Princeton Book to get a hang of what the two sections mean and how to structure your analysis. Read through the OG samples to understand the difference between a 6.0 and 5.0

Start off with picking up a position (for/against) or critique of the section. List down any assumptions you might make for eg. vouching for freedom of press in a *democratic* society vis a vis suppressal of the views of the press.

Stack up a few examples and place them into your template if any. For me I did not work on any template as such, but kept in mind that i have to accept certain strengths in the author's argument and prove that either that point of view is incomplete or the position would have been strengthened more if ...

General structure for both argument and issue analysis (mix n match)

- (example for argument analysis means something like : the author claims X. But in case of Y, X would be ... because a,b,c )
- (example for issue analysis can be current events, real life experiences and should be within context)

Para 1 - intro ; thy position ; thy assumptions if any

Para 2 - describe thy assumption ; quote an example ; use it to attack the argument ; list the flaw

Para 3 - example ; use it to attack the argument again ; list the second flaw ;

Para 4 - provide info on any strengths in the argument ; show their incompletenes ; list the flaws

Para 5 - in conclusion ; thy position proved ; author could have been convincing if ...

Write as much as you can. That being said leave at least 2-3 minutes for proof reading and practise at least once before the G-day.

all the best.

2 days before G-day I practiced once on the gmat prep before going through anything to see what I could come up with.
Then i went through the sections mentioned above in OG 11 to know the approach and assessed my essay against it.
I then went through a few sample questions to see what all examples I could think of and to see if the flaws were easily recognizable.
1 day before I practiced once more writing as much as possible and timing myself.
So that would make it twice.
