If the people already consuming more calories than the optimum, then it would weakens the argument. A is the answer.

Assertion - North americans would not live longer if they follow the reduced calorie diet as recommended by the doctor as lab rats live longer when they dont consume more than required calories

Evidence - North Americans consume more than required calories

Conclusion - North Americans can expect to live longer
