Geometry Question

Quadrilateral RSTU shown above is a site plan for a parking lot in which side RU is parallel to side ST and RU is longer than ST. What is the area of the parking lot ?

 

(1) RU = 80 meters

(2) TU= 20 sqrt(10) meters

 

The figure is attached in the word doc.

 

The answer I went with was A. But the OA is different. If anyone differs, then please explain.

I get D

 

Statement (1)

RU=80

 

area=1/2*(80+45)*60.......SUFFICIENT

 

Statement (2)

Drop a perpendicular line from T on RU, and lets call that point X

 

RW=15, WX=45, TX=60, TU=20sqrt(10)

Apply Pythag theorem, we get TX^2 + XU^2 = TU^2

Solving, we get XU=20, hence RU=80

Area= same as statement 1...............SUFFICIENT
