gmataspirenew
Juan bought some paperback books that cost $8 each and some hardcover books that cost 25$ each. If Juan bought more than 10 Paperback books, how many hardcover books did he buy? 1) The total cost of the hardcover books that Juan bought was atleast $150 2) The total cost of all the that Juan bought was
supersuj
IMO, C no. of paperback books = p no. of hardcover books = h p>10 total cost = 8p+25h statement 1--> we know that h is greater than or equal to 6, but we dont know the exact value of h...INSUFFICIENT statement 2--> p must be min. 11 books..so spent a minimum of 11*8= 88 dollars..we have no info about h...INSUFFICIENT Combining (1) and (2), if we take minimum values of p and h p=11, h=6 we get total cost as 11*8 + 25*6 = 238 dollars , which is less than 260 lets take p=11 , h=7 we get total cost as 11*8 + 25*7 = 263 dollars..NOT possible So h must be equal to 6...SUFFICIENT
genius_in_the_gene
The total cost of all the that Juan bought was Paper back=p Hard cover=h Total cost = 8p+25h p>10 1) 25h >= 150 Not sufficient . h could be 6 or more than that 2) 8p+25h if p=11 25h If we increase p, h will be less than 7. Hence h10 Not sufficient From 1 and 2 h>=6 and h Hence h=6 ANS C
