hitzs
11. Is x an even integer? (1) x is the square of an integer. (2) x is the cube of an integer. To me it seems that its C ...but wanted to know if smthing else
800Bob
It's E. Taking both statements together, x could be 1, in which case the answer to the question is no. Or x could be 64, in which case the answer to the question is yes. Two different answers to the question... insufficient. (In fact, any number that is the 6th power of an integer will satisfy both statements. x could be 1^6, 3^6, 5^6, etc. -- all odd. Or x could be 2^6, 4^6, 6^6, etc. -- all even.) jhanauer
1 and 0 also dissprove it. 1^2 = 1^3 = 1 = odd 0^2 = 0^3 = 0 = even is that logic ok?
lawrencl
11. Is x an even integer? (1) x is the square of an integer. int = 3, so x=9, and x is not even int = 2, so x=4, and x is even (insuff) BCE (2) x is the cube of an integer. int = 3, so x=27, and x is not even. int = 2, so x=8, and x is even (insuff) CE (T) int = 1, so (1) x = int^2 = 1, and (2) x = int^3 = 1, and x is not even int = 0, so (1) x = int^2 = 0, and (2) x = int^3 = 0, and x is even or follow 800Bob's logic if x=64, then (1) int=8, and (2) int=4, and x is even if x=1, then (1) int=1, and (2) int=1, and x is not even (insuff), Answer E.
