    DS symbols ???

EACH OF THOSE IN BRACKETS IS A SYMBOL THAT IS WRITTEN: (sorry dunno how to post symbol here)

    (SQUARE)
    + (TRIANGLE)
    --------------
    (STAR)

In addition problem above, each of the symbols (SQUARE) ,(TRIANGLE) and (STAR) represents a positive digit. If (SQUARE)<(TRIANGLE), what is teh value of (TRIANGLE)??

    (1) (STAR) = 5
    (2) (SQUARE) = 1

(imagine each of those is a symbol, i do not know how to post the symbol square etc on TM)

Statement 1 we can have 2 sets of answers

    Square : 1
    Triangle : 4
    Star : 5

    Square : 1
    Triangle : 4
    Star : 5

Statement 2, we only have the value of Square, so not possible.

    Using both statements

    Square : 1
    Triangle : 4
    Star : 5

May be you can think of SQUARE as x and TRIANGLE as y.
