    variable base to variable exponent

What is the value of R?
    1. R^R = R
    2. (1/R)^R = R

Can someone explain this in detail for me?

    Is it E?

    My line of thinking :

    1. says R^R = R
    R could be 1 or -1.
    Hence, insufficient.

    2. says (1/R)^R = R
    R could be 1 or -1.
    Hence, insufficient.

    Both individually and together insufficient.

    OK Answer is E

Here is the most detailed explanation..

    1. Says R^R = R

    R could be 0, 1 , -1

    2. (1/R)^R = R

    R could be 1 , -1

From both, Shortlisted 1, -1 but not sure..
