    IMO answer is (D).

With the first statement you have the answers for x ie, 2 and 3.

from the second statement we have the values 3 and 4.

with 2 statements alone we can have the values.

so i go with D. Correct me if i am wrong.

    I go with C.

    1.1/(x+1) can be 1/4 or 1/3 to satisfy the inequality.so x wud be 2 or 3..Insuff

    2.x=3,4 Insuff

    Combining 1 and 2 would give x as 3.

.. and one more thing, in the questions like find the value of x, and we have the possibility of 2 answers, should we always reduce to one?

can we have 2 values for the same variable, say x?

In data sufficiency, you must always be able to answer the stem question definitively.

This stem asks for the value of x. You cannot have more than one value for x, since it asks for a singular value. So it is not sufficient to have 2 and 3 be the value for X.

In this question, only C allows for a singular value of X.

    Ans is C.
    A gives x = 2 and 3
    B gives x = 3 and 4

    A and B together gives x = 3

Hi can anybody clear a basic doubt.

Lets say A and B in data sufficiency both gives a definitive but different answer....will the answer be D (means both alone are sufficient) OR the answer would be E (both statements did not give the same answer)?

    thanks
