Question Problem Of Solid Geometry

A cube of side 5cm is painted on all its side. If it is sliced into 1 cubic centimer cubes, how many 1 cubic centimeter cubes will have exactly one of their sides painted?
A 9
B 51
C 90
D 54
E 64

my vote is D..

draw a cube.. divide it in 1 cm cubes.. on each face, there will be 25 pieces..
leave the one on edges as they will be with more than one paint..

in center. there are 9 cubes..
total such cubes = 9 * 6 = 54

IMO D

YES D it it

For each face you have 3 * 3 = 9 such cubes cubes (Leave 1 cm border form all sides )
Total = 9 *6 =54

Yep D!

You can draw a quick little diagram of one side of a cube and divide it 5x5. Now count the squares that are not on the edge: 9. Multiply by 6 for all six sides of a cube.
