weightage of 1st 10 Q

hi guys,

is it true the 1st 5-10 Q are given more weightage than the last Qs? i heard abt it but cldnt get the logic of why the initial Qs shld be favored till i read princton review book which stated the initial Qs are scored in greater incremental (as much as 40?) compared to last Qs

Also, for quant, i know it is good (maybe required?) to have solid grounding in algebra since many Qs require algebra expressions but as i am no good in maths, i cannot construct algebra as fast .. i have to spend time digesting the Q stem and formulate an expression which is too time consuming .. all the while, i am using backsolve / nbr plugging which works 80% (doesnt seem to work for certain Q)

any advice - shld i ground myself more in algebra or just plain stick to the nbr pluggng / backsolve method? anyone who (esp those who has taken the actual GMAT) has any preference over the methods? princton review book seems to favor nbr plugging
