x=8y+12 or x=4(2y+3).... x is div by 3 a. X = 12U, where U is an integer implies x div by 3,4 and 12 insuff as nothing about y b. Y = 12Z, where Z is an integer y is div by 3,4, 12 gives one option ie 3... but having evaluated a. , we know there are more options together 12 C
