    the "radical" sign

    Hey guys, I got my hands on some material from a Kaplan GMAT prep course, and I read in one of the books that the radical sign refers only to the positive root of a numbers. Is that true??? Can anyone comment on that? As far as I know, √25 is ±5, or have I been wrong about that throughout my entire academic and professional career??

    im afraid, Yes!!!
    actually, x^2 = 25 means x=±5
    BUT, x = sqrt25 => x=5
