Re: Median

I'll go with E. Since it doesn't specify that the numbers are intergers, there are tons of possibilities which would fulfill both of the conditions.

Re: Median

agree with E...median involves arranging of numbers in order and then finding the middle value and in this case we need the 15th and 16th value. There is no way we can find out what exactly wouldbe the 15th and 16th terms even if we know what the numbers are or the sum of the numbers.

So E.

Re: Median

I worked it out....The answer is B

if all thw 30 no are 3 then 3*30=90
104-90=14
so the first 16 no will still be three no matter what and hence the median will be 3

Re: Median

You're assuming 'integers' instead of numbers.
What if the numbers are 3.1, 3.2 etc ?
We could have 14 3s and then left with a total of 62 to be divided in 16 slots (avg of 3.9)...
Unless the question says integers, answer would be E

Re: Median

Riju,grerycellz..i did not get the concept here

even if they are integers how would you say the answer is B ? let us assume there is a condn that all numbers are integers...

case 1 : we have 10 3's which means we have 104-30 = 74 left to be divided between 30 spots...it can be anything ranging from 4 to 6...i mean there is more than one possiblity with 10 3's alone and so will it be when we have 8 3's or so on.so i guess the answe will still be E

correct me if i am wrong.

Re: Median

I think if the numbers are integers then the correct answer is B
As RIJU said, if all 30 numbers were 3, the total would be 90 and 14 still to go. This means at the max 14 numbers can be greater than 3. These 14 would appear in the later half of the ordered series and the numbers in the 15th and 16th position have to be 3. I hope I am making sense

Re: Median

But the question here says numbers not integers so for this question the answer should be E.
