148. Which of the following is closest to 1/2?
(A) 4/7 (B) 5/9 (C) 5/11 (D) 50/99 (E) 50/101 In the heat of the moment what is the best way to get the answer... we can make out that its not a,b,c for sure.... but how to decide between d and e. |

Now the one with smallest denominator will be closest to 1/2.
1/2 = 50.5/101 50.5/101 - 50/101 = 1/202 Similarly, 50/99 - 49.5/99 = 1/198 Since 1/202 < 1/198, E is the answer. ( A, B and C are closer to 1/2 to a lesser extent. ) ![]() |
