x is the sum of y consecutive integers. w is the sum of z consecutive integers. If y = 2z, and y and z are both positive integers, then each of the following could be true EXCEPT
x = w x>w x/y is an integer w/z is an integer x/z is an integer |

answer is C.
here Y is even. Now a sum of even N consecutive integers is not divisible by even number N. (Check for N=2,4,6,..) Hence x/y is not an integer. -- if you still want to eliminate other options. consider X= sum of values of {1,2,3,4,5,6} this gives X= 21, y=6. W= sum of values of {1,2,3} or {6,7,8} this gives W= 6or 21 and z=3. the values satisfy all conditions other than C. |
