gmattrap
If the sum of two integers is 6, then it must be true that (A) both integers are even (B) both integers are odd © both integers are positive (D) if one integer is negative, the other is positive (E) if one integer is positive, the other is negative What's the diff b/w D & E? mr_sriramesh
8 + (-2) (both even) 3 + 3 (both odd) 3 + 3 (both positive) 8 + (-2) (positive and negative) (-2) + 8 (negative and positive) Is the answer choice is like (1) A,B (2) A,b,c,d,e etc
GREMAT
The difference between the D and E choices is in this: D) if one integer is negative, than the other MUST be positive to sum 6 (-2+8) E) if one integer is positive, the other may and may not be negative. For instance, 3+3= 6 (both positive) BUT 8-2=6 (pos. and neg.) Hence, the answer is D. HTH.
gmattrap
D: if one integer is +ve, the other is -ve E: if one integer is -ve, the other is +ve The grammar sense employed in D & E doesn't seem to suggest any difference b/w the two. Just swapping the positions of -ve & +ve: see e.g given by sriramesh Consider: X + Y = N (even) X & Y MUST both be odd OR even [O+O = E+E = E]........O=odd; E=even Both X & Y can be +ve; If X or Y is -ve, the other MUST be +Ve: That's the point of D & E. I think there is an error in the q. OA = D.

alactraz
D and E are different (A) both integers are even--> both integers could be odd (B) both integers are odd---> both integer could be even © both integers are positive ---> one of integer could be negative (D) if one integer is negative, the other is positive x+y=6 if one is negative, ex: -2, and to make sum of two integers is 6, the other MUST BE positive, ex: 8 (E) if one integer is positive, the other is negative (MAY BE) for ex: if one is positive, ex 8, than the other is negative, ex (-2) so sum of the integers will be 6. But what about: if one is positive, ex 2, is the other integer negative? since 4 is a positive number, the answer is No. IMO D
