pwrbrker2000
when m is an odd number, multiply by three. so 9*3= 27; when m is an even number divide it by two, so 6/2=3. 27*3=81. was that the answer?
AJ16
You would think so but I have an alternate source that claims the answer is D. Note that I have not seen this one come up in a gmatprep exam yet.
SunSan
Representing the box function as f(m) Given f(m) = 3m for odd m = m/2 for even m So f(9) = 3*9= 27 and f(6) = 6/2 =3 f(9)*f(3) = 81 But notice that the answer choices are represented as f(m) and not m. 81 = f(81/3) or f(81*2) i.e f(27) or f(162) So the right answer choice is D. AJ16
Ha, that was remarkably obvious! Thank you for pointing it out SunSan. :-)
