    Ice cream commission PS

    Hi can someone help to solve this? Thanks

    A salesman sells two equally priced brands of ice cream, for which he receives a sales commission of 5 percent on one brand and 7 percent on the other. If the salesman sold a total of $10,000 in ice cream and collected $660 in commissions, what fractional part of the total ice cream sold did he sell at the lower commission rate?
    7/8 4/5 1/2 1/5 1/8

    x be the amount sold on one brand
    y be the amount sold on another brand

    x+y = 10000
    0.05x + 0.07y = 660

    solving the two equations..

    Multiplying first equation by 0.07 gives 0.07x + 0.07y = 700

    equation (1) - equation (2) gives

    0.02x = 40 and hence x = 40/0.02 = 4000/2 =2000

    Fraction = 2000/10000 = 1/5
