Distance between 2 points

If the points A & B in the coordinate plane have coordinate of (-1/2, -1) and (1/2, 1/3) respectively what is the distance between A & B?

distance between (-1/2, -1) and (1/2, 1/3) is given by:
sqrt[(-1/2 - 1/2)^2 + (-1 - 1/3)^2]
i.e., sqrt[1 + 16/9]
i.e., 5/3

This question revolves around coordinate geometry. The formula is expressed as:

and is derived from pythagorem theorem. You could always plot the points and use pythagorem theorem but as you are starved for time in GMAT land...use this formula to save yourself some time.

AsKajan

Is there any place I can get some of these formulas from? Besides the one posted in Kaplan & OUG

Sparks Notes and some Wikipedia articles are useful. I'd suggest googling the concepts and compiling your own notes and formulas as you study.
