well here is a method I have come up with.I am from Iran(a country with a low knowledge of English) so if you're a native English speaker or indian you have a better headstart than me.
First.practice as much as you can.yes you'll have to read the entire passage in 3-4 minutes.(unlike Toefl you better not look at the questions first it just doesn't work this way).Move quickly from the additional examples and expository sentences but do understand them.It takes no brilliance to do all this just practice. Second.Every body has his/her own approach. So instead of obsessing yourself with the search of a good book find your own way.it takes some time so do it everyday. Finally, attack the small passage first give it only 5 mintues and 10 mintues for the longer one. Hope I could help. |

questions from reading comprehension passage can be broadly divided into five ctaegories and all these category has a particular trap associated with it .Knowing those traps can help you increase your accuracy on the GMAT. MLIC document speaks nothing about those question types and the traps . I dont have that much time to write about all those question types in detail ... still i can throw you some hint ...... try thinking of all this in this way : Why is it that the first question of almost 80 % of the passages in OG 10 , 11 OG 12 is a main point question ? Why is that main point questions occur generally as the first question in majority of passages (barring few exceptions ) and why do they not occur as third or fourth question generally . If they occur as the first question often do the test maker want to test you about something specific in mind and so they are putting the main purpose or the main point as the first question ? After all if around 80 % of the first question is main point question then it cant be mere coincidence ... similarly there are other myths that speed reading might help you in reading comprehension section of the GMAT ....... These standarised tests are made in such a manner that is not necessary that you read with speed ...... it is essential that you understand what are the various elements that test takers want you do have an idea about where the lie in the passage and when a question about that element comes you refer back to the passage and answer the question .... Imagine a paragraph in which the author talks about four different views - supporter view , critic view , supporter's country view - and critic's country view . A question may pop out when you have read the passage regarding - supporter, s country view and answers choice(wrong ones) would speak of crtic view . reading speedily or not refering back to the passage for confirming the various view would trap you into choosing wrong answers. These are just few things that is not addressed in most reading comprehension books . The whole content is so long that i wount be able to write all of it in this post . It is for all those important issues that needs attention and are lacking in the MLIC document that I criticised the document Adi_800 - as regards your comment that - " i dont think anyone will follow whatever you mentioned " i would only reply that it is not my head ache if people dont follow what i said . It is their choice - their test - their score . i also remeber the proverb - you can take horse to water but cant make it drink !!!" |
