    Iliad

Destruction of war, the bonds of friendship, the longing for the comforts of home - themes of Homer's epic poem the Iliad - had been as evocative to the ancient Greeks as it is to our own society.
A had been as evocative to the ancient Greeks as it is
B are as evocative to the ancient Greeks as they are
C evokes as much to the ancient Greeks as it does
D for the ancient Greeks evoking as much as they do
E were as evocative to the ancient Greeks as they are

    My answer is E.
