star_321
1. If additional deposits of oil are found, it will expand the amount that can be used as fuel and reduce the price of oil, even if the deposits are not immediately tapped. (A) it will expand the amount that can be used as fuel and reduce the price of oil (B) the amount that is able to be used as fuel will expand and the price of oil be reduced © it will cause an increase in the amount that is able to be used as fuel and a reduction in the price of oil (D) the amount that can be used as fuel will increase and the price of oil will drop (E) it will increase the amount of oil that can be used as fuel and cause a drop in the price
mail2jkd
1. If additional deposits of oil are found, it will expand the amount that can be used as fuel and reduce the price of oil, even if the deposits are not immediately tapped. (A) it will expand the amount that can be used as fuel and reduce the price of oil - amount can't be used as fuel, it should be amount of oil instead (B) the amount that is able to be used as fuel will expand and the price of oil be reduced - same as A, also 'that is able to be used as fuel ' and 'price of oil be reduced' is awkward © it will cause an increase in the amount that is able to be used as fuel and a reduction in the price of oil - same concerns as A & B (D) the amount that can be used as fuel will increase and the price of oil will drop - if it is 'amount of oil' that can be used as fuel, then my choice would be D (E) it will increase the amount of oil that can be used as fuel and cause a drop in the price - With little hesitation I am choosing E, although 'it' does not look convincing as a pronoun for the main clause, if it refers to the find then we are good. simple27
No referent on "it", so eliminate A, B, and E, "amount that is able to be used" is wordy. IMO, D.
Rising_Sun
My pick is D.

mitzi
I see that 'it' takes 'additional deposit' My vote for E.
mitzi
I see that 'it' takes 'additional deposit' My vote for E. for details 1.If additional deposits of oil are found, it will expand the amount that can be used as fuel and reduce the price of oil, even if the deposits are not immediately tapped. (A)it will expand the amount that can be used as fuel and reduce the price of oil amount of what? Vague. out (B)the amount that is able to be used as fuel will expand and the price of oil be reduced the same reason to a), the amount… will expand and the price.. be reduced(not parallel) out ©it will cause an increase in the amount that is able to be used as fuel and a reduction in the price of oil amount of what? (D)the amount that can be used as fuel will increase and the price of oil will drop(D) the amount that… and the price of oil… (not parallel) (E)it will increase the amount of oil that can be used as fuel and cause a drop in the price will increase the amount of oil,,, and (will) cause a drop. Keep it
earthwork
D, but D would have been definitely better if it said: amount "of oil" , even without it D is the best choice. "it" is ambiguous; expand is incorrect here.
