gurugowrav
The mistakes children make in learning to speak tell linguists more about how they learn language than the correct forms they use. A. their language learning than do B. how one learns language than C. learning language than D. how children learn language than do E. how they learn language than Ans D '.... learn language than do the correct forms they use'. Is this not awkward? Better not to rely on 1000 SC answers? Or Am I not well equipped with English?

This is the reason even I felt D is good option. But is it not awkward using '........than do the........' Try to read the whole sentence...... I felt none of the options suit

But m not comfort in accepting. idiom is 'tell linguists more X than Y'. X and Y should be parallel. Moreover, 'tell' doesn't suit in the phrase 'forms they use tell'. Infact, 'tell' is not at all required. Again '.... correct forms they use do' doesn't fit. And hence the 'language than do the correct forms they use' Neways, last attempt. Gurus, please help !!! bearbull
hmm nice try. And hence the 'language than do the correct forms they use' Ram plays football more than his wife Ambiguous : Ram plays football more than he plays his wife Or Ram plays more than his wife does HENCE WE NEED A VERB TO IT . Ram plays football more than his wife does Sample this : Ram is more happy than his wife . is non ambiguous DID you notice the difference ? Ok wait Gaurav IS better than bear&bull . Got it ? IN the first set the addition of object made the sentence ambiguous . However , In the second set there ain't any . Let us check the sentence Ram plays football more than his wife What are we comparing ? The action . Playing football Where is that action placed in the sentence ??? Before the comparative more Agree ? Sample another one : Audio slave is more inspiring than Bravery . What is before more ? Linking verb ( no action ) Hence we do not require verb after than As there is no ambiguity ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bottom line : there is no hard and fast rule ,rather dirty rule . What is more compelling is the fact that each sentence needs to be viewed separately . However , Object before than call for a verb after than (I STILL DON"T GENERALIZE IT) . --------------------------------------------------------------------- X is demoralizing resources more heavily than is Z What are we repeating ? The verb before the comparative RT ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The mistakes children make in learning to speak tell linguists more about how they learn language than the correct forms they use. Make the sentence simple Xs tell linguists more about Y than Zs tell What did we do ? Repeat the verb before comparative. (more) Moreover ,Y holds good for both. A good way for a tough problem is to remember that the verb ,which needs to be repeated , will not be mentioned explicitly but will be replaced with equivalent has /do/have etc. (auxiliary verb) . This is tougher than I expected. GURUS PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!! . HTH!!!!!!!

gurugowrav
Thanx bear&bull, for strenous effort you put to make me understand. I agree with whatever you explained. Its more about how we understand the sentence and the decision we take at that moment. But in this case, option D looks favorite than any other one. No issues
