Hi, what is the rule in this case

1. Although no proof yet exists of electromagnetic fields generated by household appliances posing any health threat , mounting scientific evidence has convinced many experts that there is cause for concern.

(A) of electromagnetic fields generated by household appliances posing any health threat

© that electromagnetic fields generated by household appliances pose any threat to health

I know C sounds better and that indeed is the answer but am not able to explain exactly why C and not A?

2. Many economists predict that the next recession, when it comes, will be caused by Federal Reserve action taken to prevent an inflationary upsurge that would result if the economy were to expand at an annual rate of three percent or more.

(A) taken to prevent an inflationary upsurge that would result

(E) taken for preventing an inflationary upsurge that will result

How do you decide between "to prevent" and "for preventing".

A is the correct answer; why "would" and not "will" as in E.

Thanks

!) in A posing any threat is modifying the appliances but it is not the appliances which are posing the threat. THE fields are the ones it should modify.

2) here in A the conditional that ends the sentence should be

IF were ,would this is the structure for an improbable situation.

so, If were , will is not correct
