Re: being able versus to be able

D---A firm that specializes in the analysis of handwriting claims to be able, from a one-page writing sample, to assess more than three hundred personality traits, including enthusiasm, imagination, and ambition.

E---A firm that specializes in the analysis of handwriting claims being able to assess, from a one-page writing sample, more than three hundred personality traits, including enthusiasm, imagination, and ambition.

"to be able to access..." is idiomatic compared to "being able to assess more than..."

Also, use of infintive is better in GMATland

The thing which is wrong in choice A is the pronoun "it". Am I correct?
ITs not clear whether the "it" there refers indeed to the "Firm"??? Pls Explain.

Re: being able versus to be able

    1. The tense of the sentence is in simple present. So 'being' that indicates present continuous will be wrong here.

    2. ' claims from ' is not correct usage when claim is used as a verb. But when claims is used as a noun, 'claims from' is correct.
for.eg., We encourage claims from a responsible customers.

    3. 'It' has ambiguity in the sentence.

Re: being able versus to be able

In E being indicates the authorative nature of company's claim tht it can always and will always assesss which is wrong as it is just a claim. Hence D. to be sounds better.
