    Why is the OA D?

    Consumers many not think of household cleaning products to be hazardous substances, but many of them can be harmful to health, especially if they are used improperly.
    (A) Consumers may not think of household cleaning products to be
    (B) Consumers may not think of household cleaning products being
    (C) A consumer may not think of their household cleaning products being
    (D) A consumer may not think of household cleaning products as
    (E) Household cleaning products may not be thought of, by consumers, as

    Can someone explain why the Official Answer is D?

    Here is how I approached it.


    I concentarted on the them in the secon part of the sentence. (", but many of them can be harmful to health"). This means that that pronoun must refer, without ambiguity to the household products. therefore Consumer has to be singular. between c and D, D wins becaus eit is most concise, moreover the their should not be there as we are speaking of a generality. Hope this helps

    I don't think I understand your logic. Why must be 'consumer' singular based on the 2nd part of the sentence is what I am trying to understand.

    Consumer has to be single because if it is plural, then it will be ambiguous to what the pronoun "them" refers to, will it be the consumers or the products. That is the way I noticed it, I am not sure if this is the best way to proceed.

    This one tests idiom.

    Think of X as Y - is the correct one.
