    Galileo

Galileo's theory that ours was indeed a solar system, in which earth and other planets revolve around the sun, reinforced those of Cpernicus.

    A) _ _
    B) ours was indeed a solar system, in which Earth and other planets revolve around the sun, reinforced that of Copernicus
    C) our solar system was indeed solar for Earth and the other planets revolve around the sun, reinforced Copernicus'
    D) our system was indeed solar, in which Earth and other planets revolved around the sun, reinforced those of Copernicus
    E) Earth and the other planets revolve around the sun in our solar system reinforces that of Copernicus.

Will post the Official Answer later! Thanks

    only E makes some sence.
Others say 'ours was' is it not solar now?

    Vivek, you got it right!

E is the only answer that has some meaning.

B was a close second. However, B used 'was' which means that 'Our solar system is no more a solar system'.

    Hope this explanation helps!

    Re: Galileo

I too voted for E when I did this question. Unfortunately the right answer is B. they say the reason E is wrong is because reinforced need to be in the past tense like "was' earlier in the sentence.

I think the best answer should be E and I was just wondering what others thought...

    Re: Galileo

I voted for B. Then read the explanation given by the others. I did not pick E because theory and the details of the theory need to be closer. What was the theory about-- the solar system.

    Re: Galileo

I also found this thing a bit awkward in E, reinforced sounded better and instinct said it should be reinforced not reinforces. For the same reason I compared B & E, which one is acceptable.
B says Ours was a solar and E says it reinforces. Then I thought ours is definetely a solar system it can not be was, it did not cease to be, while the theory reinforced, ok, but it still reinforces, it has not stopped reinforcing. So in these two I found E to be less flswed and more acceptable.
May be gurus can help us!
Kindly through some light on this.

    Re: Galileo

Apart from reinforces / reindforced ,
    Between B & E , I though that E was modifying what the actual theory was :

In E , the impression given is that 'Earth and the other planets revolve around the sun in our solar system' is the theory .

    while in the B ,
'ours was a solar system' - seems to be the theory , with the other part providing the details to support this theory .

Please correct me if this looks wrong.

    Re: Galileo

the sentence talks about general truth so present tense is prefered as in "E"

while past tense in "B" seems like saying that the galilio's theory reinforced copernicus's theory in the past and now it is not reinforcing.

    Re: Galileo

I also narrowed it down to B and E but i picked B due to following reason. I think that E changes the meaning of what author is trying to say. B implies that ours was indeed a solar system whereas E implies that the planets revolve around the sun in our solar system which means that there might be other solar systems out there in which planets donot evolve around the Sun.Although i must admit that i did not realize 'was' was incorrect until i saw other posts here.

    B) ours was indeed a solar system, in which Earth and other planets revolve around the sun, reinforced that of Copernicus
    E) Earth and the other planets revolve around the sun in our solar system reinforces that of Copernicus.
