    Term 'psychopath'

Although the term “psychopath” is popularly applied to an especially brutal criminal, in psychology it is someone who is apparently incapable of feeling compassion or the pangs of conscience.

    (A) it is someone who is

    (B) it is a person

    (C) they are people who are

    (D) it refers to someone who
    (E) it is in reference to people

    ans:
    SPOILER: B

According to me the correct answer is D because the Ques says the term 'psychopath' ---> the term cannot be a person.... Please comment !!

I think the Official Answer is incorrect here. We discussed this problem somwhere and the correct answer should indeed be D because the passage says about term (as you correctly mentioned), not the psychopath him/herself.

I am myself iclined to pick D but i see that it is missing "is" at the end and that makes the sentence awkward.

Although the term “psychopath” is popularly applied to an especially brutal criminal, in psychology it refers to someone who apparently incapable of feeling compassion or the pangs of conscience.

They just forgot to insert IS in D. This happens to some GMAT books and software.

Cant be B. All it does is to treat the term as a person in psychology. The term is used to refer/tag someone (some person) as a "psychopath". The term "psychopath" is not a person!
    D the obvious choice.

guys b has to be the answer read the original sentence carefully
Although the term “psychopath” is popularly applied to an especially brutal criminal, in psychology

it emphasizes on an especially brutal criminal.
i think d would be correct if the sentence would have read Although the term “psychopath” popularly applied to especially brutal criminals, in psychology. i think this is a TYPICAL CASE OF SUBJECT VERB AGREEMENT.
    ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE WELC0ME
success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached but by the obstacles which he has overcome
