    Manhattan sc: Because of differences

    Please discuss your choice

Because of differences in the humans body's internal pressure and the ocean's, it is essential that a diver returning to the surface ascends slowly or they
will suffer a painful condition known as the "bends."

    IMO E.
    Rejected A,B & D because of "a Diver" & "they"
    Rejected C because of non-parallelism-possesive & "of"

Thanks for your answers...But I have one question though...
i chose C because between C & E, I thought C was in proper subject-verb agreement with its usage of singular "ascends" for singular "a driver".....
can anyone explain how ascend in E agrees with a driver?

    i'm confused between C & E...

Because of the difference in the human body's internal pressure and that of the ocean, it is essential that a diver returning to the surface ascends slowly or he >> usage of difference in X & Y is unidiomatic (if this is not the case, por favor, el seņor enlighten me)

Because of the difference between the internal pressure of the human body and that of the ocean, it is essential that a diver returning to the surface ascend slowly or he >> subject-verb agreement problem ... usage of a plural verb 'ascend' with singular subject 'a diver' is incorrect (or is it typo error)

I'm sure that verb usage in E is incorrect & hence will go with C

I think this is use of subjunctive validating use of "ascend" in E.

    Thanks ... i ignored that..

use of subjunctive requires infinitive form of the verb (without the word 'to')
